Usually, within counselling, the first session is considered to be an assessment. You may like to know that the first session is not representative of counselling.

This is the time when both the client and the therapist exchange information and decide whether they are ideally suited to work together. Together we will be exploring what it is that’s motivated you to seek counselling. We will spend time exploring your hopes and expectations and the commitment required by us both.

In our first session together I will be considering which approach or mix of approaches fits best with your current needs, according to the time frame in which we will be working. I will support and motivate you to successfully achieve your therapeutic goals quickly and effectively.

I will encourage you to ask questions and  to consider if I am the best person to meet your needs and work with you.

My intention is to ensure my clients are given the best possible service within the quickest and most realistic time frame and that the benefit from our work together continues after our ending. For this reason I offer both brief and open–ended counselling.

I will be more than happy to discuss how we will work together once I have a clear picture of what you want and need from counselling. Generally I find a well - timed variety of different approaches to be most successful.
